Giving people something warm
こんにちは。秋田県由利本荘市にある英会話スクール、ウィンザーイングッリッシュスクールの雑用係です。
昨日は最高気温１４℃（もっと低いかと思いました）、風も強めで本当に寒い一日でした。
午前中娘のテニスの応援をしていた講師に暖かい紅茶を差し入れたのですが、
今朝、The Timesでこんな記事を見つけました。
People are more likely to co-operate with you if you give them something warm to hold.
The old adage that cold hands conceal a warm heart has been disputed by psychologists who say the opposite is true.
An experiment found levels of co-operation increased dramatically by the simple act of giving people something warm to hold.
MRI scans have revealed the part of the brain that responds to feeling warm, the insular cortex, also responds to feelings of affection.

conceal 隠す
reveal 明らかになる
これからは、人に何かお願いする時は暖かいものを差し入れすることにします。
それにしても、「手の冷たい人は心があたたかい」とは西洋でも言うのですね。
